What to Do in Caminito in La Boca

30 October 2024

Probably, after the Obelisco, this is the most visited place in Buenos Aires and Argentina by international tourists. A true Porteño legend.

“Caminito that time has erased, that one day saw us pass by together…”, begins one of the most famous tangos in the world. The name? Caminito, and no one sang it or will sing it better than Carlos Gardel.

What is Caminito

But Caminito is not just a tango. It is also an open-air museum street. Perhaps it is the most famous and frequented passage by tourists in Argentina and one of the most iconic in the world. Anyone who visits the country will, of course, want a photo with the Obelisco, but they will immediately ask for one with Caminito in the La Boca neighborhood.

Where is Caminito

Caminito is located in the La Boca neighborhood, southeast of Buenos Aires. Upon reaching the intersection of Dr. Del Valle Iberlucea and Magallanes streets, you will find Caminito’s most famous spot, featuring the balcony where everyone wants a photo. Once there, you can walk the 150 meters of the passage to see an authentic open-air museum with the colorful tenement buildings that defined an era in La Boca.

How to Get to Caminito

If you're driving, from the Obelisco we recommend taking Av. Corrientes to Av. Leandro N. Alem. Then, turn right heading south. After passing behind the Casa Rosada, Alem Avenue becomes Paseo Colón. When you reach the fork, take a left onto Av. Almirante Brown. The best option is to park near the intersection with Av. Pedro de Mendoza. From there, it’s just three blocks to your destination.

Bus lines that reach La Boca include 8, 20, 25, 29, 33, 46, 53, 64, 86, 152.

A taxi from the Obelisco, with light traffic, costs about 4 dollars.
